VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION ST 2017 Volunteer and save $$$$$$!!!!! Volunteers have always been the backbone of this event. This year is no exception. Please help us to make this the best Southern Thunder ever! To show our appreciation, volunteers who finish at least a two hour shift will earn a $10 credit that can be used for flyers fees and paraphernalia. You many volunteer for more than one shift however, there is an event limit of ONE credit per volunteer.* * MC2, HARA and SoAR Officers, Board Members and ST17 Committee Members are not eligible for this offer.  All time-slot requests must be made online using the form.  Requests for time-slots will be filled on a first come first served basis. The  SOUTHERN THUNDER 2017 VOLUNTEER DUTY ROSTER   shows the openings for Southern Thunder 2017 personnel.  We need people to help with with range setup and registration.  We also need RSO's, LCO's and Pad Managers.  Personnel working the high power pads as Range Safety Officer need to be certified for high power. You do not need to be familiar with the launch equipment to help. Experienced personnel will be on hand. We will be rolling wire, setting up tents and signs, positioning trash cans, marking the flight line, spectator and vendor locations, and hauling launch pads and blast shielding onto the grass. Registration: You will distribute registration packages to pre-registered flyers and same-day registrants after they pay the flyers fee to our cashier. We will have registration at the launch site. Range Safety Officer (RSO): This person is responsible for enforcing all NAR and Tripoli safety codes.  The RSO is the final authority for safety issues. The RSO is the operational manager of the launch, accountable only to the Launch Director. The RSO inspects all rockets flying at the range. All personnel staffing the High Power launches, must be High Power Certified.  Since Sunday is a Tripoli Research Launch, all SUNDAY High Power Launch Personnel must be members in good standing of the Tripoli Rocketry Association. Launch Control Officer (LCO): Operates the launch controller at the direction of the RSO.  The LCO announces rocket launches, conducts the countdown and announces the opening and closing of the range under the supervision of the RSO. All personnel staffing the High Power launches, must be High Power Certified.  Since Sunday is a Tripoli Research Launch, all SUNDAY High Power Launch Personnel must be members in good standing of the Tripoli Rocketry Association. Pad Manager: The pad manager is responsible for keeping the launch pads in good condition.  They check electrical connections such as relays and wires. They also insure that adequate blast shielding is in place to protect the sod from damage. They may also assist flyers in setting up their rockets. All personnel staffing the High Power launches, must be High Power Certified.  Since Sunday is a Tripoli Research Launch, all SUNDAY High Power Launch Personnel must be members in good standing of the Tripoli Rocketry Association. ST2017 Certification Team Members:  The Certification Team is responsible for conducting all High Power Certifications at ST2017.  At a minimum, ST2017 Certification Team members must be possess a current High Power Certification (L1, L2 or L3) from the National Association of Rocketry and/or the Tripoli Rocketry Association.  Team members must also be members in good standing with the relevant rocketry organization (s). NAR Certification Team requirements: The certification team consists of two individuals who are a minimum of 18 years old and are members in good standing of the NAR. The certification team members must be unrelated to the applicant. Members of Tripoli, unless they are also members of the NAR, cannot participate on a certification team. At least one of the team members must be already certified to a level equal to the certification level being attempted, e.g., a team member must be certified at Level 1 to judge another individual’s Level 1 certification attempt. Level 1 certifications may be administered by a single NAR Level 2 certified individual; the two certified individuals requirement is waived in this case. Certification attempts must be witnessed in person by the certification team. Video recordings of a certification flight are not acceptable. See the NAR High Power Rocketry Page. TRA Certification Team Requirements: Who can administer the TRA certification process? Only those Tripoli members who are Prefects and/or members of the Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) or a member of the Board of Directors can witness flights and administer examinations for the Level 1, Level 2 and Tripoli Mentoring Program certifications. Only members of the Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) can approve Level 3 project proposals, witness construction progress and certification flights.
